Follow Our Players at Nationals!

No fewer than 10 Team DC players are rostered on 16U and 18U teams competing in this weekend's USA Hockey Nationals. DMV-area teams that qualified this year are the Tri-City Eagles 18U, Reston 18U, Howard Huskies 16U and 18U and Ashburn Xtreme 16U. Team DC has players playing for Tri-City, Reston, Ashburn and Howard 18U.

Play opened in both tournaments yesterday, with the 16s competing in Wayne, NJ, and the 18s facing off in Amherst, NY. Defenseman Jimmy Zinter and his Ashburn Xtreme 16U teammates got off to a strong start with a 5-1 victory over the Chicago Blues in Wayne. The day didn't go as well for our players competing in the 18U tournament, with Howard falling to the New England Edge 3-1 after holding a 1-0 advantage heading into the final period, Tri-City dropping a 4-1 decision to the Golden State Eagles and Reston falling, 6-0, to the Atlanta Knights.

Team DC's Devin Lowe of the Huskies scored his team's lone goal, while Team DC goaltender Charlie O'Mara allowed just one goal on 12 shots in 26 minutes of action for Tri-City. Team DC alternate netminder Jacob Cutter stopped 10 of the 12 shots fired his way for Howard. Other Howard players on the Team DC roster include defensemen Tiger Lindsay and Matt Cremen. Other Tri-CIty players playing for Team DC include forwards Trevor Dixon and Phil Satin and defenseman Austin Kelly. Forward Kevin Polak is the lone Reston representative on Team DC.

USA Hockey America's Showcase was developed to provide the nation’s premier high school players an opportunity to be scouted by high-level programs so those players may further their hockey careers in prep school, juniors, college, and beyond. Our five days packed with over 50 competitive hockey games gives the scouts on-hand (and watching online) plenty of opportunities to recruit from the wealth of talent on the ice. The success of our event is ultimately measured by how many of those players are able to use America's Showcase as a springboard to a successful future in the upper echelon of hockey programs in North America.
