Tryouts Start This Week, Game Schedule Announced
Tryouts for Team DC, a local high school all-star hockey team representing the DMV in a USA Hockey national showcase tournament in Pittsburgh April 20-24, will begin this Wednesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m. at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD.
There will be four tryouts in all for a cost of $95. Players are not required to attend all four tryouts, but it is important for them to attend as many as possible so the evaluators can get an accurate assessment of each player’s abilities.
Registration is currently open and can be accessed by CLICKING HERE. Players are required to bring a check made out to America’s Hockey Showcase or cash in the amount of $95 to the first tryout attended. There are no discounts for attending fewer than four tryouts, and all fees must be paid in advance.
Here is the complete tryout schedule:
Tryout 1 Wednesday, March 15 -- 4:30 - 5:50pm at The Gardens Ice House
Tryout 2 Sunday, March 19 -- 3:15 - 4:30pm at The Gardens Ice House
Tryout 3 Wednesday, March 22 -- 4:30 - 5:50pm at The Gardens Ice House
Tryout 4 Sunday, March 26 1:30 - 3:30pm at Rockville Ice Arena
The objective of America’s High School Showcase is to provide a highly competitive national event for those premier high school student-athletes who play for USA Hockey-registered high school teams and to provide the opportunity for these premier players, who may not be traditionally scouted, to be seen by representatives from every level of junior (under-20) and college (ACHA and NCAA) hockey in the United States - as well as some from Canadian junior leagues.

Eligible players must have competed in at least 50% of their team's high school games in the 2016-17 season. The team is permitted to roster a maximum of four players who are full-time high school students attending a school in the represented geographic area that does not field a high school hockey team. The team will consist of junior (11th grade) and senior (12th grade) players only. Freshman and sophomore student-athletes are not eligible to be selected, but may participate in the tryout process.
The Team DC roster will consist of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Three alternates, who will not travel to the event unless they are needed to play, also will be named. A maximum of four players may be selected from any one high school, midget or junior club. Players who make the team will be required to pay a $750 fee, which will cover all transportation costs as well as lodging and the team uniform.
Tentative Practice and Game Schedule Announced

The team will travel by bus to Pittsburgh for the tournament, departing from The Gardens Ice House on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 19, and returning on either Sunday, April 23, or Monday, April 24, pending the team’s performance.
